"Gather round good food" and "made with love in Toronto" are the mottos of the newly-opened Phamilyeats, a local shop that "exists to bring people together over delicious eats." More specifically, these eats come in the form of homemade beef patties and hearty pot pies.

The owner, Chef Peter Pham, has spent his life in the kitchen. His fascination in cooking was influenced by his mother, who used to manage a restaurant in Montreal. Pham spent a few years in Hong Kong where he was exposed to new culinary skills and styles while working with well-known chefs to create private dinner experiences.

After being a professional cook for six years, Pham returned to Toronto and decided to take some time off to rediscover his values. During this time, he began to cook for pleasure again as he made dishes from his childhood. While reconnecting with himself and food all over again, he mastered numerous pastry recipes.

Like many others, Pham was temporarily unemployed when the pandemic hit. During this time, a friend from Prince Edward Island reached out to explain that there was a lack of patty spots in her area and asked if he could teach her how to make his patties over a virtual Zoom call. Since patties were one of Chef Peter's favourite snacks after a long day of high school, he was excited about her proposal. As a pair, they perfected his recipe and he shared the results on Instagram. After receiving several inquires via DM about whether his patties were for sale or not, he sent out samples to some friends. The more his patty and pie related content was shared on social media, the more the demand for his cooking grew and eventually, Phamilyeats was born.

Their patties are crispy and their flakey pastries are infused with different fillings that are each seasoned with their Phamilyeats spice mix. The four filling options include: Mild Beef, Spicy Beef, Extra Spicy Beef and Veggie. On the other hand, their Short Rib Pies and Chicken Pot Pies feature fresh vegetables inside and are coated with a light and flakey pastry.

Phamilyeats is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. They are located at 858 Eglinton Avenue East for walk-ins, pick-ups and local deliveries.
