Toronto’s original Filipino pizzeria is hosting an intimate dinner this Sunday

Saints Island Pies has announced a new dine-in pop-up event happening this Sunday evening at Ahma, a stylish event space frequented by restaurant pop-ups and food industry events. In addition to their famous Filipino pan pies, diners at this pop-up will also get a first taste of some new starters and sides recently created by the Saints team.

Cofounded by Chuck Ortiz and Chef Sean Santos, the long-time friends started Saints Island Pies as a popup in the summer of 2020, quickly rolling through the city with their incredible Filipino-inspired, Detroit-style pizzas.

By October that year, they had moved into their first brick and mortar restaurant on Dundas St. W., where they continued to serve thick, drool-worthy slices topped with rich Filipino flavours.

Unfortunately, with the ongoing uncertainties of the pandemic, Ortiz and Santos moved out of their store in January 2022 and launched a new chapter of pop-ups out of Ahma.

Their first Ahma pop-up series happened in March with resounding success. After that, the only way you could get a hot slice of Saints was through online orders for delivery or pickup.

Now, ushering in the long-awaited arrival of warm weather in Toronto, Ortiz and Santos will be bringing back their fresh-out-the-oven pizzas with another dine-in event at Ahma.

Attending this event will be a full roster of Saints’ greatest hits, including the Longanisa Pie, made with Filipino longanisa sausage, Maggi mayo, and topped with a fried egg.

Other than their famous meat and veggie pies, another must-have created by the duo is the Saints Wings—deep fried chicken wings tossed in your choice of house-made Adobo sauce or a very interesting Honey Sriracha & Cherry Cola BBQ sauce.

For this pop-up, Ortiz and Santos will be introducing several of their new menu items, including a Fried Brussels Caesar Salad featuring tinapa—a Filipino smoked fish—in the form of a salad dressing and flaked toppings.

Another exciting new dish from the duo is the Charred Eggplant Salad with diced green mangos and house-baked pieces of flatbread.

With delicious comfort foods and brand new creations, Saints Island's first pop-up dinner of the season will be the warm-weather kickoff we've all been waiting for.

“Expect great music—obviously slow jams, great company, and amazing cocktails,” says Ortiz.

The Saints Pop-Up is happening this Sunday evening, May 1, inside Ahma on 1564 Queen St. W. This one-night event is expected to book up quick, so make sure to secure your 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. seating now by messaging the Saints team on their Instagram.
