You can now get competition-level coffee at The Anndore House

Lucky for Toronto’s “coffeeholics,” HotBlack Coffee has recently opened doors to their fourth and latest location inside The Anndore House, a hip and upscale hotel near Yonge and Bloor.

Founded in 2015 by Barista Competition winner Momiji Kishi (Dark Horse Espresso Bar, Detour Coffee Roasters) and veteran hospitality expert Jimson Bienenstock (Soho House, Montecito), HotBlack Coffee has been known for its unpretentious approach to award-winning coffee.

They’ve also been featured in The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, thanks to their unique wifi-free environments that encourage conversation over screens.

At their newest location, you’ll find that signature red-and-black look that represents HotBlack Coffee’s mix of modernist boldness and classic Canadiana elements, such as wood and buffalo flannel fabrics.

Taking over Scarlet Door café, the new HotBlack Coffee designed by Kishi and Bienenstock is marked by a bright red coat of paint to replace the once-black exteriors of the building. Many elements of its predecessor are still preserved, however, including the red door and large, round windows where HotBlack Coffee now proudly displays their logo in neon signage.

Inside, you’ll feel the same wakeful energy of red floors, walls, and chairs, plus the usual black metal and wood elements that unify every HotBlack Coffee location.

At their newest shop, visitors can expect the same quality of world-class coffee, fresh baked goods, and the brand’s unique selection of wines and local beers, including ethnically farmed, vegan wines made in small batches by local and international artisans.

Plus, with Kishi still overseeing the coffee program, every cup is guaranteed to be made with ethically sourced beans from around the world, exclusively roasted to Kishi’s standards by the Canadian Roasting Society.

“Opening a new location is exciting in so many ways,” says Kishi. “But for me the big advantage is that it allows us to source, roast and expand our selection of interesting coffees for both in-house service and retail.”

With this new spot, the Bloor-Yorkville community will now have award-winning coffee within reach, while guests of The Anndore House will be able to order room service and get all of the café’s offerings conveniently delivered to their rooms.

Look for the sharp, red bricks of the new HotBlack Coffee on 15 Charles St. E. Like all their other locations, they’re open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
