Method

French Toast 8 Steps

  • Step 1

    Cut challah bread into rectangular blocks (approximately 1" x 2") or cut into thick slices,

  • Step 2

    Make batter by cracking 8 eggs into a bowl. Whisk together with milk and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

  • Step 3

    Using a deep fryer or pot, heat oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Step 4

    Quickly submerge challah blocks or slices in the batter ensuring it is fully coated but NOT drenched.

  • Step 5

    Once oil has reached 350 degrees Fahrenheit, place the challah blocks or slices in the deep fryer, or pot, for 2 minutes per side, or once evenly golden brown.

  • Step 6

    Meanwhile, in a large bowl, mix the sugar and remaining cinnamon.

  • Step 7

    Toss challah in the bowl with the cinnamon sugar.

  • Step 8

    Serve with garnish of choice (icing sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, mint or whip cream).

  • 2 cups white granulated sugar

  • Canola oil (enough for deep fryer or deep pot)

  • Fresh strawberries and blueberries, for garnish
